Je te félicite encore une fois pour ton blog (j'ai déjà discuté avec toi il y a quelques temps à propos d'un bootleg de Transformers, sauf qu'à cette époque je n'avais pas d'account Google).

Bon, passons aux choses sérieuses. J'ai une question à te poser. Est-ce que les Media Ventures Sampler vol. 1-9 sont officiels? Perso j'ai l'impression que non: plusieurs morceux sont bourrés d'sfx (ceux du Prince d'Egypt) et il y en a pas mal qui font parti d'autres bootleg (le promo de Badelt, le A Zimmer Christmas etc...).

En ce moment je recherce à nouveau les compil' The Outer Themes vol.1-6, mais je me pose la meme question: sont-ils des vrais ou des daubes?

Je n'ai pas les réponses à tes questions, cela dit, j'aurais tendance à penser comme toi. On dirait de faux bootlegs faits avec de vrais promos de compositeurs. D'autre part, les covers de font pas très "pro" mais plutôt le genre "fan-made". Celles des Outer Themes ont l'air mieux (remarque, je n'en connais que 2), sauf quand elles ont des fôtes d'ortograffe (The Outer Themes 6).
Bref, mystère...

By the way, I noticed that only one track isn't lossless, "CD2.1.The Last Crusade - Suite N.1.mp3" (which is contained in the big archive).

Don't you have it in wav format?

That's because I made it from .mp3 source. Unlike the others, this suite doesn't contain any cue from the official CD. It's all taken from the complete score bootleg (btw you can find it here).
So, decoding it to .wav would have added nothing to the sound quality, but would only have made the file heavier.

Unfortunately, track #16 (Alternate 2) is missing. I've never been able to retrieve it (and I've been searching for a long time): in all the versions of this bootleg I could find, it's been hopelessly replaced by the song Can You Feel the Love Tonight. ARGHHH! I DONT'T feel the love tonight!!!

Right now I'm mainly focused on Hans Zimmer and Media Ventures composers (currently "struggling" with Kung-Fu Panda), but I will "suite" other composers in the future. John Williams will be one of them. I might put Hook on top of his list... or maybe Star Wars (I don't know yet).

L'autre jour j'étais en train d'écouter quelques passages du score de The Ring et je me disais que ce serait bien d'avoir une version "Ultimate Expanded Special Edition de la Mort avec Jacquettes en Or"...
Il y a pas mal de materiel: le cd officiel, le promo, les recording sessions, un expanded, les morceaux additionels...voilà, juste une petite idée pour le futur...;-)

*soupir* The Ring... tu viens de mettre le doigt sur peut-être la seule musique de Zimmer que je déteste vraiment. Je n'y ai sans doute rien compris... j'sais pas, j'ai vraiment du mal avec The Ring. Entre le Promo et le CD officiel, la dernière fois que je les ai écoutés, je n'ai rien entendu qui me donne envie d'en faire une suite. J'ai téléchargé les sessions il y a des mois. Depuis lors, elles sont bien sagement stockées dans un coin de mon disque dur et... et c'est tout. Il va me falloir une grosse dose de courage pour les écouter en entier (une grosse dose d'aspirine suffirait peut-être)...
Bref, c'est pas gagné. *soupir*

Yep! I already knew these versions.
I'm sorry. I should have told you not to spend too much time on Black Hawk Down and Hannibal. I found a lot of things about these two scores, but I never found the specific tracks the man was looking for (you remember "Lasse"). I don't think we'll find anything else until something radically new comes out of the vaults of the studios. Pity.
To be honest, within the list, only two titles I can certify for sure to exist: Mistress, an out of print CD from the 90's, and Le grand pardon, a vinyl from 1985 never released on CD.
On the other hand, the other titles would have to be bootlegs or maybe promo CDs. Do they really exist? That is THE question...

Thanks for the info. However I already new this version. Someone brought to my attention that there still was missing music in the so called "complete" bootlegs of BHD, but I don't really believe a truly complete version exists... yet.

Let me first say thanks for creating this wonderful blog.

I was recently trying to download some of the scores from Hyperfileshare when I realized what I was downloading was only part of what was posted. For example, it said the file I was downloading was 16 MB, when I really should have been downloading 100 MB. Do you think you could upload the scores that are currently on Hyperfileshare to a better host, say Megaupload? I really want to listen to these scores, however, Hyperfileshare is preventing me from doing so.

Whatever you decide to do, thanks in advance!!

Wait, I think I just figured out why my downloads weren't working. In some of the links you have the format of the Hyperfileshare link is (for example, using 1941) http://www.hyperfileshare.com/d/032f7d9e. In the Prince of Egypt which I was trying to download from is: http://www.hyperfileshare.com/download.php?code=0e8eeff4. When I went through the link with that code (Prince of Egypt) the download wouldn't be the full size. However when I went through the 1941 link it would work. So the solution is (for PoE) to append the alphanumeric sequence after code to this link http://www.hyperfileshare.com/d/(insert that code here), to create http://www.hyperfileshare.com/d/0e8eeff4. I tried this last night after noticing the difference. I know it's a bit confusing, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say. I have no clue why Hyperfileshare is this way, but at least you can do some copy and pasting and then get the proper download.

I used this method to download Prince of Egypt which I was having trouble with. The link was in the long format and wasn't working. When I appended that code to the short format it worked.

You have almost certainly searched for this before, but have you ever come across the complete score by John Frizzell (and Randy Edelman) for "Gods and Generals"? I recall seeing one on eBay several years ago, but it turned out to be a hoax.

There are here real jewels. Perhaps my favorite one is "Young Sherlock Holmes". Great film and one of the best scores of all times. It's a pity they don't do films like this anymore. Films like those they use to do in the '80s, really good adventure films.

By the way, if you don't mind I'll make a request: have you got "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence - Academy Promo (2cd)" in lossless? I got a 192 and a 320 kbps version, but unfortunately both of them have some clics and noises in several tracks. I'd like to find it in lossless (ape, flac, wv... whatever), and if possible in single cdimage (plus cue) files rather than individual track files, but I haven't had luck till now.

"A.I." is one of my favorite films, and one of my favorite John Williams scores. I think it's one of the most original he has made.

This extremely rare promo has become my Holy Grail! :D

Ensuite, j'ai remarqué que de nombreuses musiques présentes dans un film ne figuraient pas toujours dans la BO officielle (c'est notament pour cela que j'ai cherché sur internet et que j'ai découvert ce site !!). Enfin peut-on se procurer les version rares dans le commerce, si oui comment?et sinon pourquoi ne circulent elles que sur internet?

Bonjour!
Un "bootleg" c'est précisément un disque qu'on ne trouve pas dans le commerce "officiel". Il faut chercher l'origine du mot dans le terme 'bootlegger' qui désignait les trafiquants d'alcool pendant la Prohibition, alcool qui était souvent de fabrication artisanale.
Un bootleg, c'est donc un disque non officiel, artisanal, qui échappe au contrôle d'un éditeur musical. Il peut avoir plusieurs sources: un ingénieur du son qui fait en douce son propre enregistrement des sessions, un CD que le compositeur lui-même envoie à un ami, ce peut être l'enregistrement pirate d'un concert, la copie illégale d'un CD officiel revendue sous le manteau (très fréquent en Asie), l'extraction d'une piste musicale isolée d'un DVD... ou encore un CD promotionnel ou "promo".
Il y a 2 sortes de promos qui me viennent immédiatement à l'esprit: les CD produits par les compositeurs pour faire leur pub auprès des producteurs de cinéma, et les CD envoyés à l'Académie des Oscars pour avoir une chance d'entrer dans la course aux nominations (ils portent la mention "for your consideration"). Ces derniers sont souvent identiques à ceux qui sortent dans le commerce, mais pas toujours, et de plus ils circulent avant la commercialisation des disques officiels.
Un "expanded score" c'est un CD (bootleg ou officiel) qui présente plus de musique que sur un CD précédemment commercialisé. Il faut savoir qu'à l'époque du 33 tours, on ne mettait pas plus de 45 mn de musique sur ce support (les double-albums ont toujours été très rare pour la musique de films). Dans les années 80, beaucoup parmi les 1ers CD n'ont été que les copies conformes des vinyles préexistants. Si cette limitation "historique" explique la relative pauvreté des premiers CD de musiques de films, ce qui pénalise les éditeurs actuels ce sont surtout les droits à reverser aux interprètes. Quand on doit payer pour les 90 ou 120 musiciens d'un orchestre symphonique, on fait des économies en éditant des CD de 30-35 minutes.

Bref...

Encore mieux que l'expanded score: le "complete score", c'est l'intégralité de la musique entendue dans le film.
Et le fin du fin, ce sont les "recording sessions" autrement dit TOUT ce que l'orchestre a enregistré, y compris les morceaux écartés du montage final.
Enfin, une "Suite" -mon humble spécialité- est un montage fait à partir d'extraits d'une œuvre complète, qui se veut cohérent et représentatif de l'œuvre d'origine, dans l'esprit et non dans la forme. Les compositeurs eux-même se livrent souvent à cet exercice pour présenter leurs musiques en concert.
Un dernier mot: depuis plusieurs années, certains bons éditeurs sortent tout à fait officiellement des expanded ou complete score, que l'on peut trouver dans le commerce à des prix raisonnables (tant que ces titres ne sont pas épuisés). Je pense notamment à FSM, GDM, LaLaLand Records, Intrada, Prometheus, Tadlow, Varèse Club... Seul inconvénient, ces sorties dépassent rarement les 3000 unités. Le meilleur endroit pour se tenir informé de ce genre de nouveautés, c'est Screen Archives Entertainment. J'achète mes CD à 99% chez eux dorénavant.

Je suis depuis qq temps maintenant ton blog et tes publications hebdomadaires : Superbe boulot! Félicitations!
Fan de Soundtracks j'étais un peu dubitatif au début mais j'ai vite découvert que tu arrivais à extraire la substantifique moelle des BO que j'écoutais déjà (s'attaquer à SW par le maître entre tous John Williams fut une gageure) et, grâce à toi, j'en ai redécouvert certaines que j'avais un peu laissé tombé.
J’apprécie tout particulièrement quand tu arrives à dégoter un passage non édité en CD et que tu l'intègres au milieu de morceaux déjà connus.

Bon courage pour la suite et continue de nous régaler!

Hey Chief !

J'ai beau suivre ce blog depuis le début, je n'étais pas sûre de où je pouvais poster la demande.

Je suis déséspéremment à la recherche d'un score qui n'a jamais vu le jour. Il s'agit de celui du film australien "Tomorrow, when the War Began", réalisé par Stuart Beattie et composé par Johnny Klimek et Reinhold Heil (The International, Run Lola Run). Le seul score (suite en fait) que vous avez de Klimek est Das Parfum.

Si j'en viens à vous demander... C'est que j'ai cherché... partout. Alors si vous avez plus de chance que moi, vous aurez toute ma gratitude !! (encore plus que celle que vous avez méritée pour le 4CD de Kingdom of Heaven il y a plus de 7 ans !)

je trouvai que la liste de tes suites manquaient un peu de Kamen, mais également des 3 compositeurs de la nouvelle génération qui sont en train d'exploser : BELTRAMI (soul sufer, snowpiercer), TYLER (iron man 3, thor2, AvPR) et GIACCHINO (john carter, super8, mi4, up, incredibles) !

It's a joy to come across rare soundtracks here.
One soundtrack I'd like to see is that of "Thelma & Louise" - specifically the songs featured in the film that are not available commercially, such as "Mercury Blues" performed by Charlie Sexton, "Drawn To The Fire" by Pam Tillis etc.

Bonjour Chief !

Aucune de mes sources ne l'ont, c'est introuvable sur le net, j'ai peur qu'un Extended Score n'ait pas été fait. Cependant, la BO de Divergent a été remasterisée pour l'album, les morceaux ne correspondent pas à ceux du film (comme le morceau "Tris" qui est en fait une suite par Ellie Goulding reprenant tous les thèmes du film mais son vocal n'est pas identique aux cues du film).

Auriez-vous ça quelque part ? A tout hasard ? Ca fait des mois que je scrute, que je me dis qu'à un moment donné, quelqu'un va bien sortir un Extended ! Mais rien encore...

La musique a été composée par Junkie XL et Ellie Goulding, produite par Hans Zimmer.

je déteste vos suites, elles ne permettent pas de sauter un morceaux que l'on aime pas contrairement aux titres séparés et c'est avec tristesse que j'ai vu bien des musiques que j'aime être enfermées dans ces suites détestables...
maintenant, cela ne concerne que moi mais je ne dois pas être le seul dans ce cas, mais malgré tout, je vous tire mon chapeau bien bas pour l'excellence de votre site et la variétés des titres proposés...

It's a good, high-quality download in FLAC format, and the closest thing I could find to the 14 track promo you're looking for.

I’m submitting a request: the complete original score of the film «Ghost in the shell» from 1995 and its sequel «Innocence» from 2004 are, if I’m not mistaken, unobtainable on streaming sites (or in order scattered with dubious mixtures) and monstrously expensive to buy on CD. Would it be possible for you to chase these excellent Kenji Kawai’s original scores? Thank you in advance!
