Hey ChiefDundee! I absolutely love your page! But as we have a really strict copyright law here in germany, i would love to know if its legal for me to download those scores here? Best regards, thundi.

ChiefDundee a dit…

It's not. But no one's going to tell ;)

Unknown a dit…

Okay thanks ;), but i for real where do you find all those tracks that have never been released? :D

This, for example, is a good source:

Heylo Chief! Oh hell yeah i´m so thankfull for your great work! :) But may I request the Complete Score of Transformers 2 on your page? I absolutely loved the first one and the second is just as great, but hard to find anywhere.
Best regards

I didn't plan to post it on the blog, but here it is:

slt Chief

My ideas Cd store

Thanks for your sharing!! Are those CDs official? Is there any place that I can buy it ?

ChiefDundee a dit…

No, they're bootlegs. You can't find/buy these from official retailers.
Scammers may try to sell some on eBay, bad CD-Rs in any case.

Unknown a dit…

OK I see, anyway, thanks again:))

Hello ChiefDundee, I have some personal questions (from my point of view) to ask you about everything you do on this site...

Firstly, I would like to know if all the Composers in Hollywood (the most Celebrates like Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, John Williams,...) are making more extensive edition (Complete Score's, The Expanded score's,...) of their Soundtracks shortly after the official "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" has been released in CD's ?

Unknown a dit…

Secondly ,why some composers like Zimmer for example^^ ,do not put all the tracks which one hears only in the film but not in the official soundtrack "album" ?

This is the things I have complained about the most of the Soundtracks. They are missing titles ! Tracks which are just as excellent as the main ones already present in the album and which deserves to be listened to in the CD that we buy (physical format preferably).

Unknown a dit…

Third Question,
Well I know you are not selling anything through this site (I inquired) but please give me an answer.

Do you know of a link where we can find out which of these extended soundtrack tapes may be true and others false ?
Those who really exist, who have had a release, a special event,... and of course those who pass themselves off as real when we see the superficialty that by observing the cover of which it is marked "created by such amateur site..."

Unknown a dit…

Fourth question and I think this is the last,

how does this system work between the Soundtrack ?
Do you know yourself in this environement ?

For example, I don't know why some are tagged with this keyword phrase "Promotional For Use Only". I've seen this in a lot of attractive CD's for a while. And every time Iknow that means it has never been sold on the public market.
Can you explain why that to me ?
Thank you in advance and to have read all my questions. :)

Unknown a dit…

Oh and don't pay too much attention if you find I asked more than four questions, I was doing more in four steps instead.
Thanks again ;)

Note that I'm not in the business, so I can only make assumptions.

Some composers don't think that complete scores make good records. That'a a matter of point of view, an artistic choice, but some cues they wrote may to work outside the movie.
Cost is also involved in decisions. You have to pay royalties to the musicians to put the music on disc. It would probably not be economically viable for a record company to release every note composed for each movie.
It's a small market. When they release a complete score, a label like La-La Land Records rarely produces more than 3000 copies.

Composers and movie companies produce promotional records to get better exposure. Especially around the time of the Academy Awards. Sometimes these promos contain the same program as the commercial discs, other times they're more complete. The terms "For promotional use only" mean they're not to be resold, you're right about that. However some people sell these anyway, or give them away. That's how they get on the internet in the end.

Now that almost everything is recorded digitally, it must be easy for someone who has access to the files (composer, sound engineer...) to copy them, and there's a good chance that's going to be found eventually somewhere on the net.

Complete soundtracks are now most probably exchanged on private forums. I'm not actively searching anymore, so I can't help you with that. Sorry.

I hope I've answered some of your questions.
Take care.

Thank You Again ChiefDundee
